We live on the Edge of the Outback in South Australia.
That is we live very close to Goyder's Line - the line dividing South Australia's pastoral land from the cropping regions. Map of South Australia showing Goyder's Line
"There’s the feel of an open-air museum
about the country near Goyder’s Line;
around every bend, over every hill,
there is likely to be another ruin,
another abandoned farmhouse,
another raw, crumbling dream."

This Blog is about how we cope with our extreme weather conditions. Blisteringly hot summers with tops in the upper 40Cs and frosty winters with lows to -8C sometimes with a little snow.
All this with an average rainfall of just 364.6mm per year. We often have much less than that.
In recent years we have noticed a new problem, that of severe wind storms...that bring down our highly valued trees...denying us of our windbreaks and shade!My aim in this blog is to collect resources and make them available for others living in arid regions.
These include websites, books and video clips.
Our block was never intended to be "a permaculture design" but during open day visits I heard several comments about how great it was to finally see a working "permaculture model".
It was only when I began to study my PDC that I realised how to link up all the elements to make it a workable system and that, I am still working on!
It is strange how excited we get seeing a morning 'red sky'
with it's promise of rain,
even if it brings only 5mm.
